What Hidden Costs Should You Expect When Purchasing Real Estate in Spain?

I’m seriously thinking about buying a small apartment in Spain, maybe somewhere along the Costa del Sol. The prices look good at first glance, but a friend told me there are a lot of extra costs people don’t expect — like taxes, notary fees, or maintenance. I don’t want to get caught off guard or blow my budget once I start the buying process. For those who’ve already bought property there, what hidden costs should I really watch out for?

We bought our place near Torrevieja last year, and yeah — there were definitely a few surprises. Apart from the usual taxes, the notary and lawyer fees added more than I expected. Then there was the property transfer tax, which varies by region. Also, don’t forget about community fees if you’re in an apartment complex! When we were searching, Real Estate for sale in Spain helped us understand the breakdown of these expenses, which made budgeting a lot easier.
