Which daily caregiving tasks do Certified Nursing Assistants usually handle when supporting seniors at home?

I was talking with my cousin last weekend about care options for our grandfather, and the topic of Certified Nursing Assistants came up. He still lives at home and prefers it that way, but some daily things have started to become harder for him, like preparing proper meals or remembering when to take his medication. My cousin mentioned that a CNA might be able to help with those routines, but I realized I don’t actually know what their typical day looks like when they work with seniors at home. Do they mostly focus on personal care like bathing and dressing, or do they also help with meals, small household tasks, and keeping someone company during the day? I’d be interested to hear how it usually works in real life.

From what I’ve seen through friends and family, people working in Certified Nursing Assistant Jobs often help seniors with a combination of personal care and everyday support so they can continue living safely at home. My neighbor’s mother had a CNA visiting regularly, and the aide would assist with morning routines, things like bathing, dressing, and sometimes preparing breakfast. They also helped remind her about medications, kept the living area tidy, and occasionally accompanied her on short walks or to appointments. When I wanted to understand the role better, I came across a page that explains typical duties and also lists open CNA roles here. It matches pretty well with what I’ve heard — helping with daily activities, offering companionship, and making sure seniors feel comfortable and supported in their own homes.
