What Traveling the World Taught Me About People and Online Dating
TheTravellingFrenchMan started as a personal space where I shared thoughts and notes from my travels, and you can find more about the project on https://thetravellingfrenchman.com/. Over time, it turned into something much bigger for me — a mix of travel experiences, psychology insights, and real encounters with people from different parts of the world.
I’ve spent years moving between countries, meeting new people, and observing how different cultures approach relationships and communication. One thing I noticed early on is that attraction and connection are universal, but the way people express them changes a lot depending on where you are in the world.
Because of my background in cognitive psychology, I naturally started analyzing these patterns more deeply. I became interested not only in travel itself but in how people behave in social situations, especially in online environments where first impressions happen in seconds.
Over time, I also started exploring online dating platforms more seriously, not just as a user but as someone trying to understand how they actually work. What makes someone trust a profile? Why do some conversations flow naturally while others die instantly? These questions became part of my research process, mixed with real-life experience.
Living as a digital nomad also changed my perspective. When you constantly move between countries, you realize that “normal” doesn’t really exist in relationships. What feels natural in one culture can be completely different in another.
Now, this blog is where I combine all of that — travel, psychology, and personal stories — into something honest and unfiltered. I don’t try to present perfect answers, just real observations from years of meeting people, dating internationally, and learning through experience.
At the end of the day, I think the world becomes much easier to understand when you stop trying to generalize people and start paying attention to their individual stories.
